The old and the new Van Dobben |
At first sight, this traditional lunch room may not look so appealing to you. With its white tiles on the walls and its not so inviting bar stools. But, If you do decide to lunch here, I promise you won't be disappointed! "Eetsalon Van Dobben" or just "Van Dobben", as it is called, is a true institution in Amsterdam and people have been coming to this place since 1945. This year they opened their second lunch room in the Pijp.

But, what to order at Van Dobben? Famous are their croquettes (deep-fried meat ragout covered in breadcrumbs), and you can order them with or without a bread roll (with, then preferably a white roll).
If you liked this, maybe you should order something even more "Amsterdam": a Broodje (bread roll) halfom: with salted meat and cooked liver.
One of my favorites is a Broodje Bal: a meatball on a bun. Only in Amsterdam you can eat such a delicious Broodje Bal!
